The Green Horizon vision
Rooted in a shared vision.
Root & Reach is developing the Green Horizon initiative: a South African nursery, propagation centre, distribution network, community planting programme and digital tree registry. Our aim is to connect healthy, climate-adapted trees with the places and people that will care for them.
Strong roots, shared growth
The proposed nursery will focus on primarily non-thorny indigenous trees and suitable fruit trees, with a planned core range of 50–250 litre containers. Commercial growing and sponsored planting programmes are intended to support long-term environmental and community benefit.
A story for every tree
Our digital registry is being developed to connect mother-stock provenance, nursery production, planting locations, ownership and survival records. Software development does not yet mean the system has passed field acceptance.
Where we are today
The project remains in planning and software development. The proposed Groenvlei, Bloemfontein property has not been confirmed as acquired. Funding, statutory approvals, water security, commercial contracts and operational infrastructure remain to be secured or validated.
The working 2027–2031 rollout is conditional on those foundations. Production targets are ambitions, not existing capacity or guaranteed availability.
